Robert Klein, Ph.D.

Research Scientist, Well-being and Personality Psychology

The built environment is literally all around us, each and every day. At the Well Living Lab, I am excited to study the way that this environment impacts our social and emotional lives. Ultimately, I hope to use my expertise in emotion and well-being assessment, as well as my work in mindfulness science, to help create new knowledge that translates into real-world improvements in social and psychological well-being.

Dr. Robert J. Klein is a happiness psychologist and author with a focus on emotion regulation. He has published extensively in scientific journals and book chapters and is passionate about uncovering unified happiness messages that transcend religious, philosophical, and scientific domains. His work has appeared in numerous popular media outlets and has been recognized by the American Psychological Association for its scientific and popular impact.

Dr. Klein was awarded an NIH fellowship at Dartmouth’s School of Medicine, where he advanced his theory on innovative new unified or “transdiagnostic” treatments. These treatments target the core emotional factors underlying most mental disorders. He is also passionate about the power of interior design in shaping well-being and has led clinical trials exploring how residential lighting can influence brain health in elderly populations, bridging psychology and design to create spaces that foster health.

Currently, Dr. Klein is writing his first book for a general audience. The book highlights two powerful happiness strategies that have emerged from both happiness and mental health sciences as the most essential, evidence-based approaches for achieving lasting personal well-being.
